Commitment to Equity

The Maryland-DC-Virginia Solar Energy Industries Association, now the Chesapeake Energy Storage and Solar Association, was formed in 1984 by thought leaders and solar power pioneers who laid the foundation for what it is today – a flourishing industry trade association with over 180 member organizations, representing over 10,000 solar jobs in the capital region.

As we have evolved over the years, we continue to refine our guiding beliefs and values. And there is no better time than now to affirm our commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity. CHESSA will strive to promote active participation and engagement for all individuals and organizations, particularly underserved, underrepresented and marginalized groups. We recognize these groups are differentiated by, but not limited to, race, ethnicity, religion, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, age, culture, ability, class, employment level, and political identity.

CHESSA will take the lead to make our local solar industry equitable and inclusive because we believe we have the power, privilege, and agency to shape a just energy future. We will continuously challenge ourselves to ensure that our actions, engagements and investments are fair and equitable for all. We will also adopt policies, tools, resources and best practices towards a more diverse solar industry.

Our work begins now. We will hold ourselves accountable and ask that our members hold us accountable too.
